How to release persimmons

Releasing Persimilis (Phytoseiulus persimilis) to control herbivorous mites (especially the two-spotted spider mite) in agriculture and greenhouses is one of the effective methods in biological pest management. In order for the release of Persimilis to achieve maximum efficiency, the following steps and points must be followed:

1. The right time to release

  • Start of infestation: The best time to release is when the spider mite infestation is in its early stages.
  • Environmental conditions: The temperature should be between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity should be above 60 percent.

2. Preparing the environment

  • Chemical pesticide reduction: Do not use any chemical pesticides for 1 to 2 weeks before release (unless pesticides compatible with natural enemies are used).
  • Humidity control: Keep the greenhouse humidity within the appropriate range by using fogging or other methods.
  • Mite survey: Identify the number and density of spider mites in infested areas.

3. Release method

A. Preparing Presimiles:

  • Presimiles are usually supplied in packets containing a carrier material (such as bran or vermiculite).
  • Before opening the packet, shake it gently to mix the predators well into the carrier material.

B. Distribution method:

  1. In the greenhouse:
  • Spread the carrier evenly over the leaves, especially in the infested areas.
  • You can use special distribution cans or spoons for precise distribution.
  1. In the open fields:
  • Release in the early morning or evening so that the ambient temperature is cool and predators are less stressed.

C. Recommended amount:

  • Light infestation: 5 to 10 predators per square meter.
  • Moderate to heavy infestation: 20 to 50 predators per square meter.
  • Repeat release every 7 to 10 days if needed.

4. Post-release care

  • Monitoring and surveillance: 3 to 5 days after release, check the infected leaves to ensure the activity and establishment of Prismilis.
  • Maintaining environmental conditions: Temperature and humidity should remain within optimal ranges.
  • Avoiding pesticides: Even after release, you should not use harmful chemical pesticides.

5. Combination with other natural enemies

In case of severe infestation, you can use Persimilis together with other predators (such as Amblyseius swirskii or Neoseiulus cucumeris) to increase control efficiency.

Benefits of systematic release

  1. Rapid reduction of mite populations.
  2. Reduction of pesticide use and environmental protection.
  3. Improvement of product quality and increased productivity.
