The effect of short-term treatment of salicylic acid and ascorbic acid in delaying the aging of cut flowers of Avalanche and Rednaomi roses

This experiment was conducted on cut rose flowers of the cultivars ‘Rednaomi’ and ‘Avalanche’ With a length of 40 cm, for 18 hours as a short-term treatment (pulsing) based on a completely randomized experiment with 5 chemical treatments: sucrose + hydroxyquinoline sulfate (suc + hqs), sucrose + hydroxyquinoline sulfate + salicylic acid (suc + hqs + sa), sucrose + hydroxyquinoline sulfate + ascorbic acid (suc + hqs + asa), sucrose + hydroxyquinoline sulfate + salicylic acid + ascorbic acid (suc + hqs + sa + asa) in 3 replications were carried out inside the bottles. Morphological traits such as shelf life, changes in water absorption, fresh weight, flower diameter and physiological traits such as total protein and proline content were evaluated. The results showed that the treatment with suc+hqs+sa had the greatest effect on the shelf life of the ‘Avalanche’ cultivar. On the contrary, the control treatment had the least shelf life. The results also showed that the treatment combination suc+hqs+sa+asa delayed the aging of the ‘Rhodnaomi’ roses and increased the water absorption rate, fresh weight and flower diameter. On the contrary, in the ‘Avalanche’ cultivar, suc+hqs+asa treatment increased the water absorption rate, fresh weight and flower diameter. The results show that the total protein content in the ‘Rhondaomi’ variety under the suc+hqs+asa treatment and the proline content under the suc+hqs treatment have the highest values, but in the ‘Avalanche’ variety the total protein content under the suc+hqs treatment and the proline content under the suc+hqs+sa treatment have the highest values.
