Review of flower perfume and Rosa iberica petal essence
Iberica wild rose flowers were examined for aroma and essential oil. Analysis was performed by gas chromatography and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GS/MS). The volatile organic compounds extracted from the petals contained eleven compounds, the most abundant of which were: phenylethyl alcohol (38.82%), benzyl alcohol (28.48%) and geraniol (12.57%). The analysis of the essential oil included thirteen compounds, with anethole (45.56%) and phthalic acid (32.23%) being the most abundant. The aroma and essential oil contained in the petals of R. iberica are useful as natural food additives, medicinal compounds, and as an aromatic plant in ornamental plant breeding strategies.
